Composition Competition

The convention of the American Guild of Organists to be held June 16-19, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona, invites submissions to a contest for a new composition for solo organ. The winning composition will receive a performance at one of the plenary sessions of the convention and the composer will receive a prize of $1,000.

Requirements

  • The composition should be of moderate difficulty and approximately 5 minutes in length. It
    should be conceived for the sound palette and stop list of the “American Classic” organ.
  • The submission must be newly composed, must not have been submitted for publication,
  • must not have been presented to a similar current competition.
  • There is an application fee of $15.00.
  • Deadline for submission is January 15, 2025.

Process for Submissions

Submissions must be engraved using Sibelius, Finale, or Musescore, and sent as a PDF file. The composer’s name should not be on this file.

If possible an MP3 file (no video) of a live performance should be included. A MIDI recording as an MP3 file generated from the engraving score is acceptable. Recordings are not mandatory.
A brief artistic statement, not to exceed 300 words, regarding such matters as original concept, structural details, interpretive intentions, registration, etc., may be included.
